A structured process to resolve property and financial matters after separation
Working through a property settlement after separation can feel daunting. Alongside emotional change, people are often required to make significant financial decisions while still adjusting to new circumstances. Uncertainty about assets, future security and what a fair outcome looks like can make it difficult to know how to move forward.
Property Settlement Mediation provides a structured, neutral process to support separated couples to resolve property and financial matters in a clear, organised and legally recognised way. The focus is on helping people reach informed agreements about their finances, so they can move forward with greater certainty.
Based in Brisbane, Linda provides property settlement mediation services online to clients across Queensland and Australia

What Is Property Settlement Mediation?
Property settlement mediation is a facilitated dispute resolution process that assists separated couples to negotiate the division of assets, liabilities and financial resources following separation.
The process supports discussions around:
identifying the property pool
understanding financial positions
considering contributions and future needs
exploring settlement options that align with family law principles
The aim is to support fair, workable agreements that both parties understand and can move forward with.

What Property Settlement Mediation Can Assist With
Property settlement mediation can support resolution of matters such as:
identify and agree on the property pool
division of real estate and other property
savings, investments and superannuation
debts, loans and liabilities
business or trust interests
timing and method of property transfers
Mediation helps parties address these issues in a contained and organised way.
Why Choose Property Settlement Mediation instead of Court?
Court-based property proceedings can be lengthy, costly and unpredictable. Many people prefer mediation because it:
allows greater control over outcomes
supports faster resolution
reduces legal and court-related costs
provides a private, confidential setting
helps narrow issues even if full agreement is not reached

While meeting face-to-face can work well for some people, it isn’t always practical or the best option when working through property settlement issues.
Online Property Mediation can be a really effective alternative, allowing both parties to take part from separate locations in a structured and neutral process, without the added pressure of being in the same room. It’s also a helpful option for people living in different locations or juggling busy schedules.
Linda offers Online Property Mediation via Zoom, giving parties the flexibility to join from their own space while working toward clear, informed, and workable property settlement outcomes. Time is also spent preparing for mediation beforehand, so everyone comes in feeling clearer and ready to have productive discussions.
How the Property Settlement Mediation Process Works
Step 1. Online Intake Individual Session
Linda meets with each parent in an online Individual Session to:
understand the financial and property issues
assess suitability for mediation
explain the mediation process
clarify expectations around full finanial disclosure and preparation
Following this session, Linda reviews the property pool with each party separately, ensuring there is a clear understanding of the key assets, liabilities, and issues to be addressed.
Linda then prepares a practical summary for each party to take to their lawyer, designed to make those discussions more efficient and focused. Once both parties have had time to meet with their lawyers, a mediation session is scheduled.
Step 2. Online Property Mediation Session
Linda welcomes each party into the Online Mediation session, whether it be jointly or in individaul virtual rooms.
The Mediation is conducted either in:
- A Joint Session (where parents are in same virtual room),
OR - A Shuttle Session (where parents are in separate virtual rooms)
Step 3. Outcome of Property Mediation
If an agreement is reached, Linda prepares a Heads of Agreement, which can then be provided to each party’s lawyer to assist with formalising the agreement in a legally binding way.
If no agreement is reached, the mediation simply comes to an end, and each party is free to consider their next steps, including seeking legal advice or exploring other ways to resolve the matter.
Working with Linda
Linda does not provide legal advice or make decisions on behalf of clients.
Linda conducts Property Settlement Mediations only where clients are legally assisted, that is their lawyer is present during the mediation.
